Causes and Effects for India
__Causes:
-Industrial Revolution increased production in factories, so the British needed a market to sell goods and a place to make goods, increasing profits.
-Nationalism led the British to believe that they were a better country and had the right to take over. It was their "God-given right."

Effects :
-The British helped the economic and technological development of many countries.
-In India, the British created a language, improved education , better health care, advanced transportation (railroads), improved communications (telegraph) and more.
-They increased racism in South Africa and contributed to the conflict in India and Pakistan's Kashmir region.

The Opium War
Imperialism started in China because of the British. The British wanted to tip the balance of trade to them having the trade surplus instead of it being owned by the Chinese. As a result, they started the Opium trade which addicted many Chinese workers. When the government of China found out, they asked the British to stop, but the British refused. Moreover, the Chinese took over some British ships containing opium. The British fought back by attacking some Chinese ports.
